hmm format got all wonky when i copy pasted... oh well XD;;
i suppose i could add a bit of what the collage means here in reference to the poem:
- Reason into the middle of the brain, because thats where reason comes from, and thats what we work (or used to work) around and base everything on. Theres a skull with crossbones above it, because as Wilmot stated, reason is a dangerous thing that leads to our demise.
- Its nearly impossible to separate the images (smashed cars, flying planes, technical designs, equations, skyscrapers, fires, explosions, and tanks) that are piled inside the brain, but the main focus is the engine (in Wilmots poem, he called man a reasoning engine
- Road of guns leads down the neck into a dark sea crashing against a cliff. This reflects what the poem says about mans falling into doubt and drowning in it; the cliff represents a steep fall, and the black waters represent endless doubt.
- Added a clutter of books to represent how man tries to get out of his doubt by studying and trying to gain more knowledge. Flames lick along their pages, to show how knowledge wont save us.
- Explosions inside the mind shows how we overwork our brains. A train involved in one of the worst train wrecks in history comes out of the forehead, to remind us what we are capable of.
- A physics equation in a circle stands for the sun, the light that shines (or doesnt shine) on the life of mankind.
- The background is a mixture of destruction, including shredded buildings, gas warfare of WWI, the terrorism of the Twin Towers, train wrecks, and atomic bombs.
- Something that reflects more of our current era in technology is the skyscrapers. Lately, the world has been in a heated competition for building the tallest skyscraper... Tower of Babel much?
- Some of the worlds tallest structures protrude out of the brain, and the worlds soon-to-be-complete tallest building, the Burj Dubai (built in Dubai and to be completed in 2009, standing from somewhere around 8001000m), stands proudly in the background.
- Last but not least is the sepia-colored newspaper overtone, which explains the modernistic past, and the words that we read, think, and speak.
- Everything looks dead, or is the cause of death; even the eyes of the person are lifeless. To show the ultimate death of Homo sapiens, I backed the human profile with a skull profile in this material world, thats all well ever be when we pass.
it's a very post-modern poem, and i did my response accordingly.
plus, it's a general thing, i think.. IMO, technology isn't all.. that... bad... XD;;;;;; ..as long as we don't get caught up in ourselves trying to figure out how to do everything on our own, i'm cool. XD
hmm...
so much to do.. so little time. why do i still procrastinate? stupid.
it seems this is all i ever say.. lol XD
